The Ohio State football team has all of their quarterbacks still on the roster. There was a thought that they potentially could lose one or two of them to the transfer portal. Instead, the Buckeyes will have all five scholarship quarterbacks this season. It’s a very crowded quarterback room considering only one can play at a time.

Because only one quarterback can play at a time, that means four others will be on the bench. Ryan Day says there is a competition going on right now, but we know who the favorite is. Will Howard is likely going to be the starter this season. So what happens when the other four realize they have to sit on the bench all year?

Will having too many quarterbacks upset the chemistry of the Ohio State football team?

While I’m not sure all of the other quarterbacks believe they have a chance to win the job this season, they all think they can win it next year. All four backups will be fighting all year for that number-two spot to head into 2025 as the favorite to win the job. There are more pressing issues to worry about in 20204 though.

What happens if Howard struggles early? Ohio State football fans are notoriously impatient. Ryan Day can’t be patient either with his current record against Michigan and his athletic director about to be retired. He needs to put the best quarterback out there that gives him the best chance to win. Which backup would take Howard’s spot in that case?

These are all questions that could have been answered more easily with fewer quarterbacks in the room. I’m surprised that either Devin Brown or Lincoln Kienholz didn’t decide to leave for a less crowded room. We’re going to find out just how committed these quarterbacks are to the success of the whole team.
